Simply defining an antibiotic as a material entity that has one of these two dispositions doesn't really work. It is true that antibiotics are usually classified under either 'bactericidal' or 'bacteriostatic'. But classifying an antibiotic merely as a material entity wouldn't capture how 'antibiotic' is exclusively used for substances that are used as drugs to treat bacterial infections. Certain chemical disinfectants are also classified as bactericidals.
