The cells were isolated from primary tumors in 1964 by Fogh J with transplantation culture and F12 culture medium containing 15% FBS. Recently, the cultured cells of the established strain were cultured in McCoy's 5a medium containing serum. This cell line is tumorigenic in nude mice as well as in steroid-treated hamsters. The cells can synthesize IgA, CEA, TGFβ binding proteins and myxins, expressing urokinase receptor, but no plasminogen activity is detected, and do not express CD4, while galactosylceramide is expressed on the cell surface (a possible replacement receptor for HIV). The oncogene tests for c-myc, K-ras, H-ras, N-ras, Myb, sis, fos are positive; The p53 gene is overexpressed and a G → A mutation occurs at codon 273, resulting in the replacement of Arg → His.
