The population doubling time was 20 hours. Tumor nodules can be formed by transplantation in treated wistar rats. The cells were epithelioid-like cells. Under the electron microscope, the epithelial cells were also shown to have desmosomes and tensinogen fibers, similar to those found in clinical hepatocarcinoma cells. On the fourth day of bottle culture, the mitotic index was about 7%. The chromosome number of BEL-7402 cells is less than triploid, and there is an abnormal acrocentric chromosome. The AFP expression activity in BEL-7402 cells was positive in indirect immunofluorescence assay. LDH isoenzyme spectrum of the cells was different from that of adult liver cells, but similar to human embryo liver and clinical liver cancer.
