The cells were isolated from the chest water of a 37-year-old white male with malignant histiocytic lymphoma by Nilsson K Laboratory in 1974. Studies since 1979 have shown that the cells can differentiate into terminal monocytes under the induction of human mixed lymphocyte culture supernatant, phorbol ester, Vit D3, γ-IFN, TNF and retinoic acid. This cell does not synthesize immunoglobulin, and is EBV-negative, and can produce lysozyme, β-2-microglobulin, and TNF-α after PMA stimulation, and express C3R, and can be used as a transfected host, and express Fas, with sensitivity to TNF and anti-Fas antibody.
