This is shown via enhancer trap activity in Gendre et al., 1994. We follow the report of three sensilla. Similarly, the number of chemosensory neurons varies: both Nayak & Singh (1983), and Stocker (1994) report 6, whilst Gendre et al. (1994), Montell (2009), and Vosshall & Stocker (2007) report 8.
