It runs along the lateral side of the antenno-subesophageal tract, and joins it around the V glomerulus, before entering the AL (Tanaka et al., 2012). It projects to the AL hub, then arborizes in almost all glomeruli, forming glomerular arborizations (Tanaka et al., 2012). Its arbors are compartmentalized, so that it may be activated in a single glomerulus at a time (Taisz et al., 2023). It receives greater input from contralateral sensory neurons and provides inhibitory, GABAergic, input to projection neurons, increasing left-right contrast (Taisz et al., 2023).
