It contains a reduced cytoplasm, a compact nucleus and thin processes and it lies close to the tubular walls. They are distinct from the stellate cells. These cells may be neurosecretory (Sozen et al., 1997). In the adult they are stem cells (Singh et al., 2007; Wang and Spradling, 2020). Tiny cells are also found in the posterior midgut (Sozen et al., 1997).
