The other branch innervates the contralateral anterior optic tubercle and lobula, where it has most of its presynapses (Schretter et al., 2025). It extends multiple branches into the proximal lobula, where it innervates more than 50 columns of layers 5 and 6 (Nern et al., 2025). Its inputs are mainly in the central brain, including the superior medial and intermediate protocerebrum (Schlegel et al., 2024; Dorkenwald et al., 2024). It is predicted to be a primary neuron (Dorkenwald et al., 2024; Schlegel et al., 2024).
