Arachidonate diffuses across the ER membrane Arachidonate released by phospholipases diffuses within the membrane and out of the membrane into the ER lumen and cytosol. The relatively low level of arachidonate in the cytoplasm is probably due to reesterification into complex lipids by acyl transferases.
