The biochemical properties and location of human GPAM have been established through studies of the recombinant protein (Chen et al. 2008); those features of GPAT2 have been inferred from the properties of its rat homologue and those of GPAM. GPAM and GPAT2 differ in their their preferences for acyl-CoA substrates (Shindou & Shimizu 2009) and in their expression patterns in the body (Takeuchi & Reue 2009).
