SLCO1B1 (formerly OATP-C), which can also transport bile salts, is mainly expressed in the liver (Abe T et al, 1999; Hsiang B et al, 1999). SLCO4A1 (formerly OATP-E) is mainly expressed in peripheral tissue and has a broad substrate specificty (Tamai I et al, 2000). SLCO1C1 (formerly OATP-F) is highly expressed in brain and is also a high affinity thyroid hormone transporter (Pizzagalli F et al, 2002).
