NEUROG3 transcription requires the activity of the HNF6 transcription factor. HES1 represses NEUROG3 transcription. In vivo, the interplay between HNF6 and HES6 deteremines the timing and level of NEUROG3 expression, which is critical for normal development of the pancreas. These events and interactions have not been studied directly in humans, but are inferred from corresponding ones worked out in the mouse.
