Plk1 is activated at the onset of mitosis and phosphorylates Nlp triggering its displacement from the centrosome (Casenghi et al.,2003). Removal of Nlp appears to contribute to the establishment of a mitotic scaffold with enhanced microtubule nucleation activity.
