It also has significant interaction with the dopaminergic system. Neurotensin is synthesized as part of a precursor protein that also contains the related neuropeptide neuromedin N. The neurotensin receptor binds neurotensin. There are two transmembrane receptors encoded by the NTSR1 (Vita N et al, 1993) and NTSR2 (Vita N et al, 1998) genes.
