This integrin plays a key role in numerous physiological processes such as angiogenesis, apoptosis, and bone resorption. <br>alphaVbeta3 interacts with various RGD-containing proteins including fibronectin, fibrinogen and vitronectin. Upon stimuli alphaVbeta3 in the presence of Mn++ binds the FN7-FN10 domains of fibronectin. This interaction activates the Ras/ERK/Raf-1 and the Ca+2/CaMKII pathways.
