SARA stabilizes the complex by directly interacting with PP1 catalytic subunit, and presumably TGF-beta receptor complex (Shi et al. 2004). This was deduced based on experiments involving recombinant mouse Smad7 and recombinant human PPP1R15A, TGFBR1, TGFBR2 and SARA.
