Increased large cells may indicate a reactive condition such as mononucleosis or a neoplastic condition. It may also help differentiate two different neoplasms such as marginal zone lymphoma (which often has increased scattered large cells) and mantle cell lymphoma (which usually has decreased scattered large cells). An increased number of large lymphocytes within a lymph node compared to a normal non-reactive lymph node.
