Unlike the virulent strain 2308, the Brucella cydB::Tn5 mutant was severely compromised for survival in the spleens of inoculated mice [Ref6477:Endley et al., 2001]. The cydB and cydD mutants are also defective for the intracellular growth of B abortus and B suis, suggesting that functional cytochrome bd oxidase is required for growth in an intracellular environment [Ref6477:Endley et al., 2001].
