<ns3:IAO_0000115>In the kinetic exclusion assay one of the interaction components (bait) is immobilized to a solid phase (beads) and is used to capture the prey from a solution containing free molecules of both the prey and the bait that has reached kinetic equilibrium. This mixture of free components is only allowed to contact the immobilized bait for a very short time, so bait-prey complexes do not dissociate. The immobilized bait captures a small percentage of the prey, which is proportional to the free prey concentration, and the captured prey is detected usually via a fluorescent tag.</ns3:IAO_0000115>
