This syndrome was previously known as nocturnal frontal lobe epilepsy, and (when familial) autosomal dominant nocturnal frontal lobe epilepsy. It has both genetic and structural causes. Patients may have hyperkinetic seizures, or seizures with asymmetric dystonic/tonic motor features.
