As the endosome goes through the maturation process various trafficking events are initiated. Material internalized from the plasma membrane or synthesized is sorted along two routes: a degradative pathway to the lysosome or an export pathway. Cargo delivery to the plasma membrane is via the recycling export pathway while delivery to the trans Golgi network (TGN) is via the retrograde export pathway.
