external exposure facility CIRIL Paul Schofield website CIRIL (Centre for Interdisciplinary Research with Heavy Ions) is the radiation biology platform at the GANIL heavy ion accelerator facility in Caen, managed by the CIMAP laboratory together with the radiation-biology laboratory LARIA. The GANIL accelerator provides beams from carbon to uranium at energies ranging from 95 MeV/A for light ions down to 24 MeV/A for uranium, with dose rates of 0.5–5 Gy/min; most biology experiments are performed in the D1 experimental area via the IRABAT beamline. The platform hosts cells (2D and 3D models) and is open to external users through a selection committee process, covering research in hadrontherapy, space radioprotection and fundamental radiobiology.
