external exposure facility UNIPI-AmBe Paul Schofield website The University of Pisa neutron irradiation facility (UNIPI-AmBe), operational since 2010, consists of an irradiation room for fast neutron and gamma exposures using AmBe and Co-60 sources, designed to minimise neutron scattering. The AmBe source is retrieved from a storage box and positioned at a specified distance from the device or detector to be irradiated, with a neutron ambient dose rate of approximately 9.4 μSv/h. The facility is part of the Nuclear Measurement Group at the Department of Civil and Industrial Engineering and is available following completion of radiation protection documentation.
