external exposure facility calibration facility - Karlsruhe Institute of Technology website Paul Schofield The irradiation facility at KIT (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) provides photon, electron and neutron irradiations in the dose range from 50 μGy up to 5 Gy, with dose rates from 2 μGy/h to 80 mGy/h (air kerma rate for photons). It uses six Cs-137 sources at different activity levels, two X-ray tubes (up to 60 kV soft X-rays), electron beta secondary standards, and Cf-252 and Am-Be neutron sources; a solid-state dosimetry laboratory with TLD and track-etch detectors is co-located. Originally designed for calibration of active and passive dosemeters, it is also used for research and development in radiation protection. Located at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
