contaminated site observatory Belgian NORM Observatory Site The Belgian NORM Observatory Site is a terrestrial forest area contaminated with naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) — specifically U-238, Ra-226, Pb-210 and Po-210 — alongside heavy metals, representing a mixed radioactive-chemical contaminant situation. As one of the ALLIANCE observatory sites, it enables studies on NORM behaviour in terrestrial environments and the combined effects of radioactive and chemical stressors on soil biota and vegetation.
