radiation research sample bank Bank of Biological Materials Tobefilledinsoon Paul Schofield The Bank of Biological Materials (BBM) at SBRC in Seversk, Russia, created in 2002, collects blood, tissue, blood DNA and cytogenetic suspension samples from employees of the Siberian Group of Chemical Enterprises (SGCE) — the world's largest nuclear industrial complex — and residents of Seversk, totalling over 20,000 samples from more than 10,000 donors. It is particularly suited to investigating individual radiation susceptibility to lung cancer, non-cancer radiation-induced diseases such as cardiac disease, and radiation-specific fingerprints in tumour material from individuals exposed to occupational and environmental ionising radiation.
