radiation epidemiology cohort Techa River Cohort (TRC) Paul Schofield The Techa River Cohort includes approximately 30,000 persons born before 1950 who lived in villages along the Techa River (Russia) between 1950 and 1960 and were affected by external gamma radiation from contaminated river sediments and internal exposure to Sr-89, Sr-90 and Cs-137 from consumption of local water, milk and food, receiving protracted low-to-medium doses (<1 Gy to soft tissues). Individualised organ doses were calculated by the URCRM dosimetry team using specially developed software, making it one of the best-characterised general population radiation cohorts in the world.
