While the exact breeding value can not been known, for performance traits it is possible to make good estimates. These estimates are called Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs). EBVs are expressed in the units of measurement for each particular trait. These estimates are output of various estimation methods which differ depending on the underlying assumptions (equal variance of marker effect, all markers contributing to the trait) , the mathemical methods used (bayesian or non-bayesians) and the genetic inheritance models being considered (additive, dominant, epistatic) selected by the analysts. ready for release
