This VBO term should therefore be used specifically for the breed conforming to this concept. North Adriatic donkey has been created in the area of Northern Adriatic, primarily in the area of Kvarner. It is based on the local population of donkeys with occasional introduction of larger Istrian donkey genome and smaller Littoral Dinaric donkey. Remaining population of the North Adriatic donkey is by its characteristics special and as such worthy of protection.
