The first import took place in 1896. From 1896 to 1980 the Danish Jersey population expanded by pure breeding. Since 1980 some import of semen, mainly from USA, but also from New Zealand has taken place. The percentage of genes originating from the original Danish Jersey of 1980 has consequently decreased and it is now down to 74% (1997). The concept of “breed reported in geographic location by FAO National Coordinators” is unique to DAD-IS (https://www.fao.org/dad-is/en/).
