It has been formed after years of crossbreeding of local cattle breeds (Brachykeratiki, Katerini, etc) with exotic double purpose breeds (Schwyz, Simmental) and Limousin bulls. The breed has been stabilised and is one of the most widespread breed in the country. The concept of “breed reported in geographic location by FAO National Coordinators” is unique to DAD-IS (https://www.fao.org/dad-is/en/).
