The concept of “breed reported in geographic location by FAO National Coordinators” is unique to DAD-IS (https://www.fao.org/dad-is/en/). This VBO term should therefore be used specifically for the breed conforming to this concept.
The breed is named as ‘Nari’ by the community. ‘Nari’ is derived from the word ‘Nar’ which means hills. Majority of the Nari cattle population are found surrounding the Aravali forest range in Sirohi and Pali districts of Rajasthan andBanaskanth, Sabarkantha districts of Gujarat. These regions are slightly hilly and undulating and can be described as native tract of Nari cattle
