The breed was well known in the big city markets of the Austrian monarchy. The breed origined from southern Austrian Styria and the region between the rivers Mura and Sava in Slovenia. Four variations based on color of feather were known: white, brown, barred, and patridge. In Slovenia mainly patridge variation and few animals of white variation can be found today.
