From 1900 to 1905 Toggenburg goats and Thuringian goats were imported from Germany, but from France – Alpine goats. Improvement of the breed resumed in 1989 -1994, when 66 Saanen breed females and 4 males were imported from the Republic of Czechoslovakia to improve milk productivity of local goats. In the course of targeted work Latvian Native goat breed has been developed into the breed with high reproductive ability, relatively good growth rate, excellent meat quality and high resistance to different diseases.</ns5:origindescription>

<rdfs:comment>The concept of “breed reported in geographic location by FAO National Coordinators” is unique to DAD-IS (https://www.fao.org/dad-is/en/). This VBO term should therefore be used specifically for the breed conforming to this concept.</rdfs:comment>
