<ns5:origindescription>Beginnings of creation of Međimurje horse belongs to the events on the social and political scene at the end of 18th century (reforms of Joseph II, Maria Teresia, French revolution, diminishing of feudalism and creation of small village estates). Due to favourable geographical and political position of Međimurje on the break between 18 and 19th century, the progressive motions and change in Middle Europe significantly influenced the economic life of Međimurje. During the same period the basic autochtonous population was used as a establishment for creation of the Međimurje horse, systematic introduction of Ardennes, Percheron, Flamman and to smaller extent Barbant and Burgoindese studs. This horse was extremely valued as a transport horse or horse for pulling heavy cargo's. Međimurje horse is mentioned almost in all hipology lexicons and atlases of the world.</ns5:origindescription>

<rdfs:comment>The concept of “breed reported in geographic location by FAO National Coordinators” is unique to DAD-IS (https://www.fao.org/dad-is/en/). This VBO term should therefore be used specifically for the breed conforming to this concept.</rdfs:comment>
