It also happened that Sudanese soldiers occupied lake Tchad countries shortly before and during the Mahdia reign. Furthermore, pilgrims from eastern countries of West Africa going to Mekka passed through Sudan and nomadic Fulani, well known as brave warriors and fond of horses, regularly moved between Sudan and eastern West Africa. All these factors were responsible for the propagation of Dongola horses in eastern West African countries. The concept of “breed reported in geographic location by FAO National Coordinators” is unique to DAD-IS (https://www.fao.org/dad-is/en/).
