breed reported in geographic location Wielkopolska (Sheep) Wielkopolska, Poland (Sheep) https://www.fao.org/dad-is Wielkopolska sheep This variety of Polish Lowland Sheep was developed in the years 1948-77 at the Poznan Agriculture University, Sheep Breeding Department experimental farms. The starting point were local primitive ewes (Swiniarka and Leszczynska sheep) which were upgraded with Polish Merino and Romney Marsh rams. The program on prolificacy improvement in the national sheep population was introduced in 1994. The final genotype of ewes in maternal breeds should contain l/4 of the prolific genotype and 3/4 of the local breed genotype. The breed is kept in the Poznan region. The concept of “breed reported in geographic location by FAO National Coordinators” is unique to DAD-IS (https://www.fao.org/dad-is/en/).
